Scout and about 2nd November

Hello Units!   I trust your blood glucose levels remain suitably under control after the sugar rush that is Halloween. If not, the following should fix it!   This Thursday, under the careful planning eye of our very own Emil we'll be out and about on a bike ride, somewhere (and if we're lucky Emil might even choose a route with ice-cream on the way, hint hint)   So what will I need I hear you ask enthusiastically! A bike that works (wheels pumped, brakes braking, saddle present, suspicious squeak absent) Lights for your bike (front and back preferably, a head torch at a minimum, a Davy lantern not at all). A helmet. Yes - a lid for your loaf, a bucket for your brain, a can for your cabbage.... No helmet no ride (unless you can demonstrate you've no brain to protect) .... A small backpack with a snack (almost typed snake there), a drink and a raincoat A yellow jersey, but only if you're feeling speedy speedy.   Whilst our main objecti...

Fwd: Scouts 12th October and Term Four Plan

Hello Units! And welcome to Term 4 – Your continued adventures in the world of Scouting. This term your good ‘ole unit council have dang well gone and got their fluffy little heads together like the cohesive leadership machine they are and cooked you up a veritable jambalaya of activities for the rest of your scouting year. This cornucopia of delights to dellect and amaze starts on your favorite night of the week, Thursday; yep, be still my beating heart that be tomorrow! And in a change of theme, while usually the first night back is a “Feed the local insect life whilst trying not to burn water on a Trangia” night, Audrey and Maddie will be organizing a talent night (BYO talent)... What’s that you say? Now’s your chance to show off your “Saw a sibling in half” trick? Hmm best wait ‘til they get their stiches out first. This is however your chance to marvel at your fellow unit’s creativity and hidden depths, whilst wowing the t...

Scouts 31st August

Hello Units!   I hope that you units who came along last weekend had a good time and have gotten' around to unpacking your bags, wait what - ahh that's what the smell is I hear you yell...   And if any of the boys happened to unpack a mysteriously un-used toiletry bag with stars on you don't recognise (OK let's be honest you'd barely recognize your own) a certain child of mine would be indifferent to its return, his parents however....   This week we had great plans to go spelunking into the dim and distant Scouting past but, with a last-minute cancellation by the Scout Heritage center those dreams are history, pun intended.   But not to be undaunted tonight will see the return of the Great 4th Kew Scouts Spit tournament, and for those who don't Spit (we're not all Llama's you yell) please feel free to bring alternative games; board, card or similar (PlayStation's need not apply).   Tonight, will also see the unveiling of the awar...

Scouts 24th August

Units!!   If you're reading this now, put them phones down and get to bed!   Because tomorrow night we'll be heading out of the hall for a little light competitive creativity. That's right the semi regular 4th Kew Scout photography competition has come around again.   But wait I hear you ask, I don't have a camera that takes photos of anything other than duck faces! But wait I say  don't worry, all that snap catting practise might just pay off!   So we'll be meeting at the hall at 6:45...   Yes 6:45, so we've got time for more that one ISO12000 shot and to get the composition just right.   You'll need,   A Myki ( remember last time when the ticket inspectors got on the tram?!)   A phone/camera/hasselblad medium format super 50   A warm jacket   Perhaps some pocket money for tasty treats to feed your artistic muse.   We'll head to a suitably creative location filled with possibilit...

Help on Thursday 17th

Evening Units, and specifically their PA's.   Scouts have an emergency filled night planned for us so steel yourself for dealing with all sorts short of the zombie apocalypse!   It would be great if I could get some assistance please tomorrow night to keep the emergencies to the planned ones only.   Let me know if you can assist. Please.   And as a final reminder, the weekend of the 25th we'll be heading to Bay Park Station to camp/sleep in the trains and generally have some chilled out fun... If you've put your name down for the trip, Awesome, if you've not and want to, let me know. More details to follow for those who've signed up.   If you can help out please let me know. It will be fun and not under canvas so not too chilly.   Let me know if you can assist. please.   See you tomorrow,   Stuart

Scouts 1st June

Hello again units of a Scout like shape, This Thursday, in what is a little deviation from the plan, we'll be visited by the Rover Recycling crew. And before you think "Dumpster diving?! Finally that's something I can get into" we'll be looking at the whole chain, including making some of our own cool things from those things that you toss out. Our plan also had a sleepover in the hall pencilled in for this Saturday night but, with a bunch of our units on camp for world jamboree and the open day of the Kew Recycling Group (no connection) on the Saturday (See Simone's email - please come along and help) we'll need to shift it - let's get together and decide when suits us all best tomorrow. We've also got some Scouting business to do, including investing our very own Olivia after she's survived (cue thunder and lightning) "Trial by Sprouthike", which we should seriously consider introducing as a standing thing! and, erm, catching up on ...
